Safety and the Environment 

Our attitude is that safety is an investment in people, equipment, relationships, and the environment. ERS' senior management has designed its processes and selected its people and equipment to maintain our award-winning standard of HS&E excellence. Drivers and operators have the training and equipment to ensure no product hits the ground. Any spills that may occur are taken very seriously. Clean up is required to be done immediately and properly with a full report and investigation with lessons learned. Shield Specialized Services Emergency Services Inc. is our spill responder and we have a well-documented emergency response plan should an unforeseen event take place.


ERS achieved COR status in January 2010. We are both ISNetworld and CanQual compliant. Our commitment to HS&E is a reflection of who we are and what we choose to do. 


In recognizing ERS' dedication and outstanding contribution to the enhancement of safety and health in the workplace, Alberta Construction Safety Association has awarded ERS the Trailblazer Award for 2010. In March 2010, ERS was recognized as a safety leader in Alberta by the Alberta Construction Safety Association. Finishing the year with a Total Recordable Injury Frequency of 0.00, ERS received the Trailblazer Award for their innovations, safety program, and safe work in the community of Wood Buffalo.

ERS believes there is no such thing as a safe company, only safe people. All ERS employees are given rigorous safety training, which is supported in the field through our processes and equipment.


To honour our responsibilities, ERS:

  • Maintains a target of ZERO environmental spills.
  • Works towards ZERO occupational health and safety (OH&S) incidents.
  • Complies with or exceeds all of the prevailing environmental and occupational health and safety Acts, codes, and regulations.
  • Designed our process so that all employees and contractors working for ERS can perform their duties in accordance with the company standards.
  • Provides, on an ongoing basis, sufficient resources to ensure that the employees have the appropriate training, guidance, and mentoring and are fully informed of all the current occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains emergency response plans applicable to our operations in the field.
  • Minimizes the consequences of environmental emergencies.
  • Monitors, on a regular basis, health, safety, and environmental practices and reporting procedures.
  • Is sensitive and responsive to the concerns of the public regarding our business practices and procedures.
  • Ensures that health, safety, and environmental considerations are top priorities in planning, developing, and implementing any new or existing operations.
  • Maintains a relationship with ISNetworld and continues to be 100% compliant.
  • Continues with our application for our Certificate of Recognition.
  • Maintains our membership in the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
